Quotations, confirmation of order and production

Quotations are valid for 2 months. We require a 50% deposit on all our orders before production commences. A delay in receipt of deposits will impact on the final delivery date. Deposit payments are confirmation of your order. The outstanding balance must be paid before dispatch or collection of goods.

Cancellation of order

If you wish to cancel an order you may do so within seven days by emailing . Each piece in our collection is handmade to order with a range of specialist finishes therefore in the event that having placed an order you wish to cancel it, if this is outside the 7 day period listed above, we will charge a cancellation fee of 50%-100% of the value of the order. This applies to cancellation of orders prior to delivery. If your order has already been delivered, unfortunately we do not offer a cancellation service.

Returns

Made to order pieces can only be returned if there is a fault with the piece. We ask that every effort must be made for faults to be reported to us within 14 days of delivery. We regret that we cannot accept international returns.

Lead Times

Lead times quoted are approximate (and vary depending on the particular piece ordered). We always aim to complete orders in good time, however we may experience third party material and other delays that are out of our control. These may cause a delay to the completion date of an order. If this happens, we will always endeavour to give clients as much notice as possible.

Limited Warranty

Our made to order pieces are designed and built using the very best materials and craftsmen skills, so we expect them to last for many, many years. However we will pay within 12 months of purchase, all reasonable costs to repair or replace defective parts providing the piece has been respectfully cared for according to our Terms & Conditions. We will not be responsible for incidental damages or damage caused by mis-use or accident.

Hand finishes, brass patination and timber grain & colour

Each piece is hand finished using traditional techniques. Please note that Brass is a live metal and as such, colour and ageing vary in particular with our hammered bench. We use the best quality timbers. As a natural product, each piece of hardwood (whether solid or veneered) varies in grain pattern and in colour. Burr Oak and Sycamore can be particularly variable. And European oak may reveal knots once machined. All this forms part of the unique character of each piece and we purposely do not stain our timber. We apply a matt oil to our timber pieces.

General

Each piece in our collection is handmade to order in England by master craftsmen using the very best materials, craftsmanship and detailing. Please note the following to help ensure the long-term beauty and longevity of the furniture.

Floor & Wall Levels

It is a clients responsibility to ensure that floor and wall levels are straight and even. Pieces are designed and made to stand on (and in some cases against) level surfaces. In some cases we may be able to fit adjustable legs to compensate, however this incurs an additional charge and the adjustment required must be advised by the client at the time of order.

Painted surface care

Paint is available in sheen finishes up to approximately 50%. The lighter the colour choice, the less the sheen appears. Inevitably, painted surfaces are less durable and more likely to mark than other surfaces. We strongly advise the use of mats and coasters to protect surfaces and any spills must be cleared as soon as they happen.

Surfaces should be dusted with a soft, dry, clean 100% cotton cloth. This includes chamois, microfibre and piano cloth. Never use paper towels or anything else that could potentially scratch the surface. If excessive dust is present then slightly dampen the cloth before wiping the surface, but note that surface dust can scratch the paint when cleaned with a wiping motion. Avoid using washing up liquid detergents. Be sure to thoroughly dry the area after using a slightly damp cloth.

Ebonised furniture should be polished (only when needed) with dark furniture wax. Direct sunlight will affect finishes over time. Repairs such as dents and scratches would need to be undertaken by a professional.

Leather furniture care

If exposed to direct sunlight, leather colour and shine will fade. We recommend nothing more than a soft cloth, slightly dampened if necessary to clean leather. If colour and sheen start to fade, we recommend a good quality leather hide care polish. We deliberately upholster our leather shelves so they fit snugly inside their table frame, as over time and with exposure to heat, leather naturally shrinks a little.

Brass furniture care

Please note that brass is a very soft metal and as such, hand finishes can be damaged if the piece is knocked, scraped or scuffed heavily. In addition, please avoid using any chemical cleaning or polishing products and abrasive cloths. Care instructions for specific finishes are:

Polished Antique Brass & Aged Brass - avoid regular human touch (causing finger prints) as much as possible. If the surface is stained or scratched, apply a beeswax furniture polish (like Wood Silk) evenly using a lint free cloth. Otherwise Wipe surfaces with a soft cloth to remove dust. Our polished antique brass finish is un-lacquered meaning the sheen will dull down and age naturally through oxidisation.

Antique Bronze - lustre can be maintained by applying a dark furniture wax using a lint free cloth. Otherwise wipe surfaces with a soft cloth to remove dust.

Verdigris - simply wipe surfaces with a lint free cloth to remove dust.

Please note that when handling the hammered bench, it is important to always lift it from underneath the base, not from the seat pad. The base is made of solid brass and whilst the seat pad is securely fitted to the base with brass screws, these are not designed to support the weight of the base (which is significant) and may cause them to dislodge. Please contact us if you require further information.

Wood furniture care

Please ask us for individual guidance on the correct care of a piece prior to ordering. Clean only with a damp non-abrasive cloth. Solvents should not be used. Protect wood from direct contact with metal vessels, heat, liquid and abrasive surfaces. Exposure to constant sunlight may cause wood colour to fade or bleach. Wood will be affected by wet or damp conditions. Wood will be affected by heat. Do not place furniture next to a radiator or wood burner as this could cause the wood to expand and contract which may warp the piece. Damage caused by this is not our responsibility. We may be able to repair damage caused by this (at cost to the customer) but reserve the right to request images or inspect on site any reported issues in compliance with your statutory rights.

Upholstery

Pieces are traditionally upholstered using natural fibres with no foam. It is the customers responsibility to provide a fabric that is suitable for upholstery, the customers responsibility to ensure they are happy with the quality of the fabric to be used. Thicker woven fabric will achieve a less tailored outline than thinner printed fabric, especially on our Hammered Benches. And please note that our quoted fabric requirements are based on standard useable widths of 140cm (55"). Customers may wish to consult your fabric supplier for information on fire retardancy and flame proofing.

Delivery & Shipping

Where possible, we aim to deliver UK orders ourselves however this will depend on the delivery location and size of item/s. If required, we will use a third party courier whose costs will be advised at the time of order. For all international shipping, we use Simon Hall Ltd who liaise with and invoice customers directly once the order has left our workshops. Please note that for all third party shipping, we cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to an order once it has left our workshops.

Force Majure

If we are prevented, hindered or delayed in or from performing any of the obligations under this agreement by something beyond our reasonable control, including lack of workforce, we shall not be in breach of this agreement or otherwise liable for any such failure or delay in the performance of such obligations. The time for performance of such obligations shall be extended accordingly.
